The girl next door Posted on : Feb 18, 2004 by Tony Akins Print

At the end of a holiday season that can only be described as the blessing of a lifetime, I was sure that nothing could bring me down. I had spent a week traveling cross country with my lifetime best friend to be a witnesses to history. Upon our return escrow closed on my first home and my girlfriend and I were assured that our pending baby boy was going to be healthy and happy. It was more than any man could ask.As a firefighter for the past 12 years I've seen firsthand how cruel life can be...Today I was reminded. To quote Baz Lerman "the real problems in life are the ones that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday."

Like all of you I lost someone in my life that was not merely a passing acquaintance, Christy never really had superficial friendships like that. Everyone she touched felt a special connection to her. I remember her as someone who could never be described as plastic or material. She was the kind of person to me that made me want to be better in friendships and in life. Although we hadn't spoken recently. I was warmed by her memory and cherished the thought of the next time I'd talk to her. Demian Bridwell and I were planning along overdue trip to Vegas to catch up...and I ache at the thought of the fact that it will never take place.

"So join me in morning my friends, and let your tears fall where they may. Fear not the days to come, nor the pain that is here today. For time will heal all. And friends will always stay."

I'll miss you more than you know my beloved girl next door. May you now live in peace in the arms of our lord forever.
